Well, now that the drawbridge has been pulled up for Afghans, it looks like some will pay with their lives. Mr Raab, I hope your extra 2 days in the sun were worth it
No doubt he cant do everything himself but, covid apart, the Biggest crisis in his time as Foreign Secretary and he believes HIS holiday is more important than the lives of Afghans.

Absolutely shocking
You have no idea what he was doing and which calls he was making. This isn't a crisis its just a bunch medieval warlords flexing their muscles - in a couple of weeks we will have moved on - is this bigger than Syria, Ukraine, Taiwan, Hong Kong - there are so many we can't be there for everyone.
What do we really expect from these guys - yes if we were being invaded I get it

Come off it. Are you saying a phone call 24 hours before Kabul was overrun would have made one iota of difference? The Afghan government was already in flight anyway and its doubtful there would have been anyone in situ to take the call anyway. I'm no fan of Raab but you really need a bigger stick to beat him with. Also if a lie was told to cover for him that was pointless and stupid as there really was no need.
We knew 18 months ago that the Americans were leaving not just the last few days. I guess they did not expect such a rapid take over by the Taliban. I assume the delay was to try to avoid the sight of a large number of Afghans arriving in the U.K. when the Home Secretary made it her goal to keep everyone else out. They gambled that they would have a bit longer to get them out but as per usual they were wrong and are now panicking but sadly some will now be left behind to their fate. I think anyone with a brain would realise that Biden was never going to go to the Taliban cap in hand requesting an extension. The special relationship is dead why doesn’t Johnson ask the Taliban for an extension because according to the government we are Great Britain again.

Hang on ZZB, this is his job. I've had to break holidays before and to deal with far less important issues than this.
The bottom line is that he should have been at his post dealing with this issue, end of - there is no defence and even he now says, with hindsight, that he shouldn't have gone. Nuff said.
Maybe he just couldn't be arsed to check his diary.

We clearly have very different expectations of senior ministers, even Raab now realises that he shouldn't have gone on holiday. It's not about one bloody phone call, it's about a (very) senior politician not doing his job and there seems little doubt that some people will lose their lives as a result - remember, had Boris croaked from covid, Raab would have been in temporary charge - and this is how seriously he takes his responsibilities. Even the most true blue of true blue Tories cant argue here.
So we now base success on the number of deaths. We have reached a new low even for this government. This was also the same Foreign Secretary who allowed Anne Sakoolas to return home despite being warned she did not have the immunity stated. We all know that the Americans never allow one of their citizens stand trial in any third party country and so did he.
