Talk about re writing history.
Our "beloved leader" is now suggesting that Maggie closed the pits to give the UK a head start on becoming a "green" economy.
What an absolute tool this man is and I sincerely hope that the "red wall" voters are proud of getting the buffoon elected.

Ironically, 40 years on, there would have needed to be a move away energy generated from coal.
However, did this government not just allow a new open cast coal mine in Cumbria:

Nice one Boris

You can add to this a new oil field which apparently they must go ahead with because you cannot rip up a signed contract. Is this not the same PM who threatened to rip up the EU contract he signed because he hadn’t understood what he was signing so it didn’t count.
The green speech she gave was as a result of the Green Party receiving 15% of a vote and they were worried. The pits were just collateral damage for a fight against the NUM whose pension scheme they have been taking funds from ever since. I wonder how those in Nottingham felt when despite backing her and her promise to support them resulted in their pits still closing as they were warned.

Who has been taking funds from the NUM pension scheme ?

Yes both used the same conditions but one party wanted to give 1.2b back and adjust the agreement whilst the other who is now PM promised he would sort it out but has decided not to bother.

As opposed to Arthur Scargill who went into the strike with a big union and a small house... Came out of it with a small union and a big house.

The bungalow on Sheffield Rd at Worsborough is still there although I don't know who owns it now, perhaps it was sold to buy the apartment in the Barbican in Central London, unless he pillocked the NUM to buy it for him.

No the poor suckers who went down the mines bought that for him . Took his own union to court as well when they wanted to sell it.

I bet you weren't slagging her when her and her government sold off the council houses you live in, especially when some of your mates sold them on for a tidy profit. cheers maggie

I can certainly say I had no liking for Thatcher or any of her policies regardless on her views on council houses, even those used by her friend in Westminster to gerrymander the elections. It’s a shame the money from house sales went to central government rather than the local authorities who built them.
It became obvious why she was known as Margaret Thatcher milk snatcher.
