Sky sports have been increasingly using sports TV platforms to amplify social and political crusades, on Friday Jon Wells took this further and issued a rallying call to Rugby League Clubs and players to engage politically and use their platform to promote political views.

For some people Sport is a welcome distraction from the constant news on tv radio, social media, where the world argues constantly about Leave v Remain, Lockdown v no lockdown, capitalism v socialism, pandemic v scamdemic etc.

Should Sky be using RL to champion their politics?

Black Lives Matter have now changed their name to Black Liberation Movement in the UK.
That to me sounds much more political.
In recent weeks both Sajid Magic and Pritti Patel have voiced their concerns over BLM. Remember that the stated aim of BLM is to destabilise capitalism and refund the police. Quite ironic when every major sport relies on money derived through capitalism and the policing of games. Maybe Jon Wells needs to read up a bit more on these things.

Let's keep politics out of sport as much as possible rather than encouraging it. We need to be united not divided.

Do you include all politicising in RL, sky sports, or is it just a particular issue that is offending you?

I take it in around 3 weeks time will you be starting a similar post regarding armistice day and RL traditionally promoting/respecting this and how it's amplifying a political cause. Or if this year they choose to not do anything will you fly off into "poppy rage"

"Our game" has a long proud history of racial integration, racial firsts, and a Long proud history of Black players who have lit up "our game" Black history month in the U.K. As been going for 27 years, and this is the first year I remember when the RFL super league and sky sports have done anything this significant. Its long over due that it has taken us 27 years to truly celebrate our great Black players.

It's not an agenda it's a celebration, nor is respecting showing solidarity to BLM and a firm commitment to stamping out racial injustice an agenda.

Coalescing Armistice Day with BLM is wrong and pretty distasteful.
A female MP ,with a family name I pronounce as Bad Enoch, but which of course,is spelled Badenoch and pronounced differently is the Conservative Party Equalities Minister. Her pronounce ents on BLM are,in my opinion, and probably others with melanin in their bodies, quite correct.

This nonsense about poppies was given publicity by professional footballer McLean,an Irishman, and followers of Celtic,up in Scotland.
I don't think immigrants of colour who have been in Ireland or Scotland think much of their ability on inter-racial harmony.

People should opt out of Sky Television.

Why is it distasteful, it's a simple enough question, does the poster want all politicising removed or just the things he or people like him does not agree with. We can celebrate all worthwhile causes/movements or none. Not just keep what we agree with, which is is?

I have had the same argument on twitter with people. They shout for politics to be kept out of rugby league but when you challenge them about Rugby League promoting the British armed forces they then claim the poppy and armed forces day are not political. You couldn't make it up!

To be honest I love seeing these people moan about BLM every week and how they are never watching sky again etc etc. It's funny seeing them go into meltdown

Rugby League exists because of "politics", inequality and discrimination were the reason some of our most famous players made their way into our sport. We can't escape politics when watching Rugby League because it is woven into the heart of the sport.

There are reasons why those in power want to spread misinformation about movements to remove inequality, they are similar to the reasons the RFU wanted to prevent broken time payments 125 years ago. Divide and conquer, and keep your foot on the neck of those you have power over.
