Depends how you want to 'celebrate' the extra day I suppose. A free day off will do me no matter how bad the deceased! Ideally I'd get the day off then volunteer to cover my own shift for "Double bubble". She'd like that!
Worked for Diana's funeral. Kerching!

It not an extra days holiday though, its the same August Bank Holiday which currently does not have a name other than the one that everyone knows as "August Bank Holiday" that would be renamed "August Bank Holiday Margaret Thatcher Day".

Personally I think its too many words for a holiday and if they vote for anything could probably just vote to call it "Holiday".

Of course Tory politicians like having holidays named after them - Kenneth Baker was the last one flinging days off for schoolteachers all over the land, called them "Baker Days" he did - true story.

Lots of teachers took the day off to bake things, sort of missed the point really.

If them useless berks had got her at Brighton I'd have settled for a Thatcher Day.
It would have been a pleasant time for remembrance.

Edited, in accordance with the AUP, after a complaint. Mintball

All the public schoolboys from all parties who delusionally agree that she did wonders for the ordinary man in the street.

The same ones who now deride and blame all the ills in society on the underclass she lavishly helped to create.

Funny aint it?

The ones stupid enough to think there is a majority of people who hold her in the obvious reverence they do?

If they want to have a holiday named after a Tory politician surely it should be Churchill? Despite his war leadership and some other notable interventions such as being a supporter of a minimum wage he was still not much of a friend to the working class but I could cope with a day named after him all the same.

I think it's a long overdue acknowledgement of one of the greatest Political figures in UK politics of the last century.

The woman who turned the UK from being the sick man of Europe into a competitive trading nation again.....put the negative and divisive Trade Union bullyboys to the sword ....and found time along the way to show Johnny Foreigner that the British Lion still had teeth.

Not bad for a lass of humble beginnings, who lived over the shop in a small provincial town.

And for those sad deluded folk who have lived their lives vicariously through their support of Socialist Policies, which so spectacularly failed them, they can simply excercise their right to take a different view, and go to work on that day. Not at double bubble though.....that would be hypocrisy of the highest order.

For the Benefits Brigade, unless HMG organises some street parties for them, with appropriate plastic Union Flags to wave at the Media cameras, then it will simply be another empty day, which would merely highlight the vacuous existence of many of them.

I commend the idea to the House!
