Post subject:  Offence caused ???

I think we've been here before but there is another example today of the sort of ridiculous "sorry for any offence" preemptive action taken by a business, I quote from a Facebook post from "Visit Scotland"...

Quote:We at VisitScotland would like to express our sincere condolences to the people of Glasgow in the light of the tragic events that have unfolded overnight.

Like many of you we are shocked by the terrible news, and our thoughts are with all those caught up in this unfortunate incident.

Unfortunately we had a series of posts scheduled over the weekend. We have now removed these and would like to apologise for any offence caused.

Visit Scotland are a tourist organisation who are very effective at promoting the country, I get all sorts of Facebook, email and posted stuff from them with lots of special offers for hotels and touristy-type things, thats all they do, they tell you how great Scotland can be (I agree) and they let you know about whats going on touristy-wise, they don't offend, they aren't into shock-horror abusive messages designed to make you sit up and read, they are a professional tourist organisation.

Now I don't know what sort of series of posts they had planned for this weekend but unless it included offers for cheap helicopter flights or a "smashing sing-along night in a pub in Glasgow guaranteed to bring the roof down", then WTF could they have advised me of that would have caused offence ?

A tragedy has happened that has directly involved "some" people and indirectly caused millions to watch the news and think "oh thats awful", if you then get an email half an hour later advising you of the beauty of the Highlands or special deals for an Edinburgh new year, then what sort of idiot are you to take offence at that and how long is a safe period of time for Visit Scotland to start publicising Scotland again ?

Madness.

We also have Alex Salmond running around saying it is a disaster for Scotland, which smacks of trying to make political capital out of it. (I don't recall any English politician trying to claim the M5 motorway crash was a disaster for England, for example). All sorts of messages are being pasted on social media sites, expressing condolences to the Scots.

I sense there is going to be a scouse-eque mentality of Scots grief whoring off the back of this one, especially if the death toll starts to rise. It is not to be unexpected...most of the inhabitants of Glasgow have nothing else to do apart from drink themselves into oblivion on Tenants Super-strength, whilst waiting for the next Giro.

"Most of the inhabitants of Glasgow"?

How many have you managed to observe then?

Once again you have proved yourself to be a narrow-minded, xenophobic, obnoxious, odious little ... Okay, let's try not to be, err, too offensive. Mintball.

But were you offended, and has the helicopter company suspended its business too ?

It would be just a bit sad if that was the real reason behind your post, unfortunately all your previous in exhibiting your true near-racist feelings indicates your post was far from some pathetic attempt to troll.
