Is it acceptable for this lot to black up, whilst we are left to lament the loss of the Black and White Minstrels?

"The 'Nutters' say the tradition of blacking up has little or nothing to do with race

"One theory is that it represents a pagan custom of disguising the dancers from being recognised by the evil spirits their parade is meant to ward off.

"Another is that it reflects the sooty faces of men working in the Lancashire's quarries and mines in the 19th century."

So, not quite like blacking up for a minstrel show, then.

That would be the Black and White Mistrels who were pepetuating the N-word Minstrel thing, the happily intellectually-inferior slave singing along?
I don't see the similarity but I'm sure you can clarify.

So, the numbers "lamenting" the demise of the B&WM seem to amount to, er... 1 ?

The RFL should employ the dancers to face off against the NZ Haka and put fear into them on Saturday.

I don't lament it, not because it perpetuated the N-minstrel stereotyping, but because it was shoite although having said that if I had a choice between the return of N-minstrel stereotyoing and programs like Geordie Shore or TOWIE, then I'd be sat in front of a mirror with the blackened end of a cork, a stripey waistcoat and a straw boater this very evening

No, that would be the award winning Black and White Minstrel Show, which was extremely popular back in the day, running for some 20 years on TV, and featuring a Vaudiville stage act of operatic trained singers performing Calypsos, Negro Spirituals, show tunes ,Country and Western, with a sprinkling of dancing and comedy.

Negro was the word you were alluding to?
