A dental nurse who'd worked for the same dentist for 10 years, and was apparently a model employee, was fired on the grounds of her attractiveness, because the dentist and his wife were afraid he might be tempted to try to start an affair with her and ruin their marriage.

She sued for sex discrimination and lost. It went on appeal to the Iowa Supreme Court which has upheld the ruling. It said firing an employee for being too attractive, despite no inappropriate behaviour on her part, is not sex discrimination, because gender is not the issue.

Funny old world.

He should have lost the case for being so stupid as to tell her that was the reason she was being let go.

She hampered her case by not being hot enough. If she truly was hot, and not just "meh", then the judges would have ruled in her favour.

I have lost count of the jobs I have been fired from for the exact same reason, beauty can be a curse sometimes :D

I watched a video clip yesterday of a news segment about 3 different people attempting to steal a bike.

It was about racial profiling.

There was a fat white kid who was stealing a bike. People were giving him funny looks, a few people questioned him whether it was his bike, but generally he was free to take the bike. A 50-ish black woman said that she just didn't think a white boy would be stealing.

A skinny black kid, looking about 12 attempted the same task. People were right on him, asking him if it was his bike and arguing him when he said no. One of the people ended up calling the police on him.

A REALLY hot blonde girl, about 18 was attempting to steal the bike too. Most people were falling over themselves to help her steal the bike, knowing full well what she was doing.

Hot women don't need any more help!

It took him 10 years to realise? Maybe she was showing signs of age and he had good legal advice to the that if he sacked her for being too good looking he'd be OK, whereas if he sacked her so he could get a younger even more attractive nurse in that would be discriminatory?

Listening to that anchorman interviewing is nearly as painful as listening Ms Burley of Sky fame.

Well, so the judge ruled. Dangerously so, so much so she could be fired to protect the obvious risk to her boss's marriage :)
