Well since Kirkstaller copped a ban its about time someone took up the religious baton and so you miserable sinners, read the above link and find out specifically which horrible eternal torture you can expect to suffer.

Personally, because I am totally ambivalent about the whole religion guff thing I will apparently end up on the periphery of hell running around for eternity being stung by wasps and having maggots drink my blood, sounds like a good night out in St Helens does that.

Its also very revealing in other ways, I always thought that the worst sin that a Christian could do was to commit suicide, you'll be buried in unconsecrated ground outside the churchyard and all that, well it turns out that that is the worst part of taking your own life for your punishment in hell is to be a tree, just that, you'll be a tree for eternity.

But the worst that hell has for you sinners is if you have partaken of traitorous behavior, for you hell does not hold back its fury, the deity is indeed vociferous in his expressions of anger at you the traitor, you evil person you, for you must marry a pig in a nuns wimple.

I'm off to church tonight, see if they're open for business, failing that its the chemist for some insect repellent.

I think the hint was in point 10:

Quote:Very few of these ideas are from the Bible. The Bible does refer to Hell and its fires, but more of the details in Dante are drawn from Greek and Roman myths, and the vast majority are the creation of medieval Western imagination. Eastern Christian artists never shared their interest, and even in the West it was a late development - the doctrine of perpetual torment was propounded by the Lateran Council of 1215, just a century before Dante wrote. In modern times Christians have become increasingly sceptical about Hell. There are 622 verses in the Bible (in the New International Version) which mention Heaven, and 15 that mention Hell.

Success is not final; failure is not fatal: it is the courage to continue that counts. (Winston Churchill)

That's never been allowed to get in the way of the various Christian churches and denominations.

"You are working for Satan." Kirkstaller

"Dare to know!" Immanuel Kant

"Do not take life too seriously. You will never get out of it alive" Elbert Hubbard

"We are all in the gutter, but some of us are looking at the stars." Oscar Wilde

The Voluptuous Manifesto – thoughts on all sorts of stuff.

If you've no one to have a dig at then let him back on! This thread is a bit lame TBH.

Doesn't really have to be in the bible for it to be taught to the religious followers - Dante for instance had family links to the Papacy and was taught (as were all scholars at the time) by Catholic monks in Florence, its not hard to deduce where he got the ideas implanted that there was a place called Hell and of what went on there.

Hieronymus Bosch's father was an important leader of The Brotherhood of Our Lady, a Flemish Catholic organisation that followed the mother of Christ and in adulthood Bosch became artistic advisor to the organisation, fairly easy to see where his influences came from.

Milton followed Protestantism and was trained to be an Anglican priest and much of his early work is centred around religion, not hard to fathom out where he got his ideas on Hell from.

Organised religion has used various visions of Hell as a control tool for centuries in an "Ignore us and this will happen to you" or "Ignore us and this is what awaits" or more importantly "Hand over your wealth or this will be your fate", the concept of a Hell is purely a religious concept invented by the religious hierachy and mentioned in the bible, no argument.
