Has anyone ever worked for a car hire company? Are there any particular scams / stunts they pull on customers?

Don't know about scams/stunts but I did know someone who worked in the booking office of a national car/van hire company and every year when we needed a large van and minibus for one of our bike rides he'd give me the code to enter on the internet booking form which gave me the same loyalty discount that an international blue chip company who hire hundreds of vehicles every day would use :D

Unfortunately he was made redundant last year

PS - booking via the internet was always the cheapest way, he couldn't get anywhere near the internet rates with or without our "special code" - thats why they've closed so many offices.

I used Enterprise to ferry some senior colleagues around a couple of clients recently. All very good except they upgraded me "free of charge" from a Mini MPV to Full MPV and then tried to charge me full whack for the higher class vehicle when I returned it.

It was (eventually) easily explained away: "apologies, our mistake, I see what you originally ordered now", but took quite a bit of time and 'discussion' to resolve, and unfortunately left a bitter taste in my mouth.

Other than that, the staff and service were great, no attempts to push silly insurance or other added costs.

wouldn't touch Enterprise, their "service" locally in Mansfield is garbage, use National a lot now, they deliver and collect cars, online prices are 30-40% cheaper than walk up. Never been "scammed" but I guess it's probably a slow news day in the DallyM so he needs a witch hunt of some kind to pass his time.

I once hired a car in Belfast. Company policy was to hire the cheapest car available which I did. Bloke on the desk tried to get me to upgrade to a BMW but I explained I couldn't.

He just smiled and wished me a pleasant day. I went outside to be greeted by my vehicle - a lovely Pink Ford Ka!

Typical man  Who cares what make/model/colour it is as long as it gets you from A to B??? :)

I was the branch manager of the Enterprise in Hull - no scams. the majority of Enterprise business is replacement vehicles through insurance claims - around 60% of their business. In fact, Retail is only around 20% of the business - the rest comes through corporate hires, bodyshops and dealerships.

Weekends are the best time to get deals - Friday afternoon to Monday morning, as they need the cars on the road and not in the car park.

If you have any questions mate, then let me know.

I also used Enterprise earlier this year from Derry, they were kind enough to pick us up from the airport to take us to their office 2 miles away FOC, which was handy. They were the only major car rental company that would hire me a car - I've only held a full license since January :)

I was upgraded FOC from a Chevy Aveo to a nippy Seat Leon tdi. The only additional cost they offered was a £20 add on to reduce the damage excess from £600 to a max of £100, which I had no problem paying (it came off the £200 deposit when they returned it to my account).

23 - 20 - 4

Warrington led 16-2 in Saturday's Grand Final, but their joy was short-lived as Wigan roared back to win the Super League title and extend the Wire's 58-year wait to be champions

Just steer well clear of Goldcar, just google them for reviews and you'll see what I mean!
