Post subject:  Illegal names on Electoral Roll

Whilst bored I type my dad's name into a search engine. Up it popped showing me this name on www.192.com. The weird thing was that all of a sudden against my mum and dad's number is a name of Eastern European origin (Polish), who is absolutely nothing to do with any of my family. This person is on the electoral roll according to this website at my parent's address.

The website that I've never heard of before is talking about buying credits to find out the info.

Rather than upsetting my elderly parents. I was just wondering if any else has come across this before and what do you reckon the course of action should be?

I'd have thought you'd need to contact the local council who are in charge of the electoral roll

There is only one electoral roll and the definitive version is the one held by your parents local council, if the council won't speak to you then get your parents to check it out - potentially it could be very dodgy if someone has managed to get themselves on the roll falsely and there can only be one reason why somone would want to do that.

It would appear my partner doesn't live with me. She said she was away on business...

It's just a website. it's not the actual electoral role, it's probably not that up to date and full of mistakes, mistakes that aren;t that important really.

I did a search on my name just now, and it has me living with seven people. A couple of the names I recognise a people who used to live at the address (we used to get odd bts of post for them). However, when the electoral role letter comes through each year, it doesn't have their names on - that's the thing you need to check.

I wouldn't worry about it.

I use 192.com for tracing relatives. Have your parents lived in the property a long time? From what I can gather the other names underneath the address are of the previous occupant.

Think you've got this a bit confused, but if you want me to check it for you PM me the details and I'll be happy to tell you what it shows.

Yeah, I reckon some people may be old residents on some of the listings. As on the in laws at their old address there was another name who might have been the previous owner. Not the ones I was on about though.

Yeah, the same council flat since 1975. We moved into it when it was built.

Thanks for the offer. But I'll politely decline.

I do suspect that people are using other people's addresses as their residence for whatever reason. Being a suspicious, cynical old git, I'd say for no good.
