R.I.P JL, a true genius of the Hammond. You young 'uns, ask your dad... |

There is nothing that sounds quite like a Hammond Organ, not even a synthesizer can duplicate that sound. |

RIP. Never was a huge Deep Purple fan. Too many lineup changes and changes in musical direction for my liking. However I was a big Emerson, Lake and Palmer fan for a while. Eventually the whole prog rock thing got on my nerves. I never got tired of the new wave of British heavy melt and 80's thrash though . Youtube "Big train Keith Emerson." |

Sad news. I watched a BBC 4 documentary on the development of Heavy Metal just the other night and Lord featured on it. Came across as an intelligent, decent bloke. I wasn't as in to Purple as some of my contemporaries but I still had a few of their albums. The main riff from Smoke On The Water is also the only guitar riff I ever learned and one of three things I can pick out on a piano. |

strange coincidence, I haven't listened to Purple in a lot of years and recently had a lot of vinyls put into digital and only yesterday listened to the live album Made in Japan in my car. RIP Jon Lord |
