i'm planning on going over the summer with the kids, getting the train down teh day before, staying over then going round the morning after. I'm wondering how long it takes roughly to go round with (with kids in tow) so to know when to book to come back, i can't imagine that it'll take all day but you never know, it could be magical* and i might want to stay there.
It's at Leavesden, near Watford. Not far from where I'm sat. Not been and don't want to, although Mrs D mentioned it a couple of weeks ago and thought we ought to go. So, it's possible that I may have to suffer the indignity at some point.
I went a few months ago just before the official opening. Really enjoyed it, although I think admittance was limited so the amount of people there was no where near the amount you would get now so it was a lot easier to look at things without it being too crowded. I think we went round in about 2 hours and that was taking out time so It's certainly not a full dayer of a job. We stayed at a premier Inn at watford which was a short taxi ride away and next to a tgi fridays and a mcdonalds which came in handy, but there are regular shuttle buses going from Watford Junction station to the tour, we used it to get back afterwards and it didn't take long at all, I think these shuttles also go from central london. We went in at 1 and where out about 3 ish and as our train didn't leave until 8 we were stuck in Watford for a few hours with not much to do other than sit in "the flag" pub next to the station which was ok but no good for kids.
Depending on how much the train costs you could probably do the whole thing in a day without messing about staying over. Oh and unless you have more money then sense you'd be better staying away from the shop! extortionate doesn't even come close.

Go on Dally and go as you might like it.

I'd be sniffy about both. Each to their own, I guess.
Nonetheless, whilst I'm waiting for trains at Kings Cross, I do like watching people taking each other's photograph at the trolley half-way into the wall under the sign "Platform 9 3/4 ". Always makes me smile ... in a nice way.
A small gesture from Network Rail there, of which I heartily approve.
