Kobo looks lots better, but I have never used one.

The Kindle is okay. I've not got the current generation but the one before it. It's strengths are the battery life and clarity of the text. It's easy to read and the battery life is fantastic. You can go on a two week holiday and not even pack the charger it's that good.

On the down side it's very limited graphically, the other features like the internet browser and music player are appalling due to the screen. It's also not backlit, so you can't read it in the dark which massively annoys the Mrs. The version I have also flashes the screen on and off whenever you turn a page, which can be very annoying until you get used to it happening. The whole screen turns black, flashes white and then redraws the text, instead of an animated page flick screen refresh that others can do.

Are we back here again already :D

If it was a straight choice between those two then I'd have one of the Kobo's simply for the fact of the ePUB format - but what will you be using for ?

Not that my council offers it at the moment and only plan to release spoken books at the moment but for the technologically challenged amongst us does that mean you can borrow library books?

If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess to favor freedom, and yet depreciate agitation, are men who want crops without plowing up the ground. They want rain without thunder and lightning. They want the ocean without the awful roar of its many waters. This struggle may be a moral one; or it may be a physical one; or it may be both moral and physical; but it must be a struggle.

I tried the Kobo app on my phone. Very well designed and extremely good to look at. I'd be tempted to go with that on that basis alone. I'm sure you can't really go far wrong with either though

Yes, Leeds Libraries have a big range of books (including new library releases) available online now and add new ones weekly, its obviously cheaper for them to buy the licences for eBooks than to buy the real books and run public libraries - like all councils they have closed some public libraries this year - they will only supply time-limited (three week) licences to download though on the ePUB and PDF formats (PDF never formats on the Sony properly) but you can borrow up to four ebooks at a time, I use the Sony Pocket Edition, topped it up with four library books for my summer holiday, excellent use of council tax resources :D

The link to the virtual bookshelf is on the page above, but of course you need a Leeds Libraries card to log in and use it :D

Don't remember a previous thread, sorry!

Cheers all, it's just going to be used as a book substitute, thats all, so the Kobo is winning so far.

There are two distinct types of Kobo readers, one is an Android based tablet like unit that can run most Android apps the other is the Kindle like eInk readers, make sure you know what you want to do before you buy one.
