Interesting series of articles on the first populist left wing movement in America since the thirties.

All available at the best news site the world has to offer: Democracy Now.

I imagine that most of the affluent posters on the sinbin are pretending this isn't happening!

Probably everyone who posts on the "Sinbin" already knows about this but tv news channel RT (Russia Today) gives loads of airtime to this subject, albeit from a Russian, slightly anti USA, perspective. I was surprised to see how big this thing appears to be, especially seeing that it gets very little mention on British TV news.

The lack of mainstream coverage of these events speaks volumes to me. 700 peaceful protestors were arrested the other week.

Anyway it looks like people are trying to organise a similar protest in London -

It certainly is fascinating how the mainstream media jumped all over reporting about the protest movements in the middle east but has been strangely muted about whats going on in the USA.

I cant help but think that the BBC and ITV have been told to avoid discussion were possible, in case it results in something like the riots which spread through London and many of Britains cities.

For me it shows that they are worried that this country may be a tinder box that wont take much to go over the edge.

The days and weeks ahead will be interesting, especially with the occupy London protests scheduled for the 15th October.
The media will find it hard to ignore a few thousand people blockading THE CITY. What will be of note then will be how its reported. I expect to hear words like Anarchists & Criminals in broadcasts, along with little discussion of the issues the protestors are actually concerned about. Hopefully i am wrong but i am not confident this will be the case.

We saw in the riots how the establishment can respond when it feels threatened, in the form of sentencing policy and special emergency courts.

Westminster Bridge was occupied on Sunday by around 2,000 protestors.

BBC News 24 carried a report, but the website was mute on the subject until very late on in the day – presumably after being tweeted and emailed about it by a lot of people complaining that it had no coverage, but was splashing over Macca's wedding.

I was in New York on holiday last week and went down to Wall Street to have a nosey.

There was no one around where the Federal Reserve and Stock Exchange are but the streets were lined with police and crowd control barriers. Further towards Ground Zero in a small plaza there were maybe 500 protesters, none of whom were causing any trouble and there seemed to be a decent rapport between them and the onlooking police.

The amount of media personnel there was staggering, you could hardly move for news crews and their vehicles. Seemed to be almost as many of them as there were protesters.

Heard about the empty tents the other day on the radio. One woman said 'Well we need to go home and charge our phones don't we'
