Well, if you're not interested in whizz-bang features, I believe OpenOffice has a pdf import functionality that lets you perform basic edits on pdf documents.
So it looks like CutePDF can be beaten on both features and price.
We use CutePDF in the business for one important feature that Open Office can't do - merge two or more separate PDF docs into one, an important feature for us.

I wasn't aware of that the last time I used it it only had basic output to PDF, cheers.
