As we're at the time of year, what's been everybody's favourite game of the year?
I expect to see a lot of Skyrim, but my favourite game has probably been Marvel vs. Capcom 3/Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3. Think the game adds such a fun approach to a genre that doesn't appeal to many any more, but it's still so complex and 'deep'. I've grown tired of gaming over the years, so I found it quite odd that I've found a lot of joy out of one of the oldest genres out there. Street Fighter and Marvel are such good games and the community is really fun, yet still has the 'old skool' element about it.

What a masterpiece Skyrim is. Picked it up for £20 last week and been glued to it ever since. As a fantasy RPG it's the type of game I usually steer well clear of but the combat is brilliant and the storyline superb.
As for game of the year it can only be Portal 2. By far the best game I've ever played and Valve through in a free DLC. Only game I've ever been sad enough to get the 1000GS on. Gears of War 3 was a decent finish to the trilogy but not on the same level as Portal 2.
What about letdown of the year? For me it has to be Arkham City. I adored the first Batman game. It was clever and featured such a wide range of puzzles yet this one just seemed incredibly repetitive. Most of the game was spent travelling around the roof tops rather than getting stuck into the action. Oh and it had a rather annoying knack of losing game saves. I lost 3 and I know of others who traded it in off the back of it just losing saves.

Personally I quite like it, it's more story orientated and mature than say WoW for instance. The whole thing is voice acted and it feels like a much deeper experience.
That said there are a few bugs and what not to iron out, but to be honest every MMO has these when launched.
It's broken 1m subscribers in only a couple of days - record breaking in the genre, so i'm quite hopeful, it's just up to Bioware to sort out the issues asap to stop people drifting off.

Be interesting to see if I can make it all the way through this one, OoT 3D was the first Zelda game I've ever bought and not had the desire to finish.
I couldn't have been more wrong. 16 hours in and I'm beginning to think it's my favourite of all the 3D Zelda games. They have really nailed it this time around. Hope the rest of the game is just as good.

I haven't played SWTOR since last weekend, but I pretty much echo what TrinityIHC says. It's very story-oriented - a lot of cutscenes and the quests follow on and on and on whereas the story just finishes after a couple of quests in WoW. It doesn't seem as 'open-World' as other MMOs though. Maybe because I'm relatively low level at 16, dunno. But the combat is 10x more fun than other MMOs and obvious things like the scenery, voice-acting (as said) and I think it's generally a lot easier to get into, than WoW/Eve/LOTRO/Rift, etc. (yeah, I've tried 'em all).
And I'm not sure subscribers will go back to WoW. They have dropped by a million in the last three months and speaking to people that do still play, they are just bored of the new raids that are being rolled out and it's too easy.
