Hunt may be a decent shout.

Never really liked him but, he is rather better than Johnson. Not as much charisma but, eminently better with most other things.

Who are the other candidates; Brandon Lewis - he is no pushover, can't think of any others - Sunak is a young rising star - shortage of talent!!

Your job is to say to yourself on a job interview does the hiring manager likes me or not. If you aren't a particular manager's cup of tea, you haven't failed -- you've dodged a bullet.

Social care was an issue under Blair/Brown too.

The Government's handling of the virus has been shambolic - the best they can do is own up and move on. They are lucky it 4.5 years to a general election!!

We dont necessarily need a new puppet, just a new puppet master. Maybe Kier Starmer could replace Cummings.

Perhaps he do on everything what his policy was on Brexit?

Looks like the cat briefly came out of the bag today, with one of the less senior Tory ministers telling us that the scientists are to blame and that they got it wrong.
It was bloody obvious, from the beginning of the daily briefings, where Johnson appeared with 2 experts that, they were there to, at some point be the fall guys, so that, once again, Boris could absolve himself of responsibility.
Helen Whately has said that it was the fault of the science as the blame game begins, albeit a little too soon.

It was ever thus. All this, "we're following the science" was merely a way of saying, "don't blame us if it goes wrong, the scientists told us to do it this way". All those who were cheerleading the government's following of the science will be the same ones putting the boot in when they cry, "all pile on the scientists!".

I have noticed that since two of the scientists who stood up against the government’s handling of the virus in respect of Mr Cummings has resulted in all scientists being excluded from the daily report.

And now put up as the proverbial scapegoats.
It was nailed on form the outset and with a Prime Minister that has yet to take responsibility of any of his numerous failings, why on earth should we expect anything else.
You can already hear him explaining that "We were following the science".

She is useless - at the end of the day they are advisors - the government makes the decision. Interesting John Hemmings on Marr on Sunday said the only way this ends is through herd immunity - perhaps if the government had stuck to its guns initially we wouldn't be in the mess we are now.

Steph Curry wrote:Of course we did. Because we count deaths where Covid-19 is suspected, even if no test or a negative test is undertaken . Happened to my mums best friend. Rushed to hospital with a heart attack. 2 tests were taken, both negative. Guess what went on the death certificate. Most if not all the other countries, only count deaths that are proved to be caused by Covid-19. We are also 2-3 weeks behind the other countries of which, not all declare care home deaths or residential deaths.

The best baramoter is deaths per capita. if we adopted the other EU countries way of recording deaths, the UK would have the second lowest death rate per capital after Germany.

But dont let facts get in the way

The facts are that we are actually the worse for excess deaths per million in the entire world. I hope the truth does not get in the way of your false hope that the government are running a successful virus operation.
