That's just nonsense. A good lawyer could ease virtually all of your legal worries and a good estate agent could probably get more for your home than you'd ever be able to get for yourself.

The problem is probably that the lawyers and estate agents you've dealt with weren't very good and you probably weren't paying them anything near enough to earn their interest in your work.

You can remind us all of that if the Old Bill ever come knocking at your door

My next door neighbour and best mate is a legal practitioner.
He's been more than helpful to me over the years when I've been in need of, err, his professional assistance. :SHIFTY:

And I've never had a bill.

Since both of my offspring went into the legal profession in recent years I and they have slowly come to realise that its not the path to the fountain of personal fortune and a nice big new Merc every year that maybe they were led to believe at the start of their university course.

Starting pay for a "normal" job in a city law firm for a new law degree owner is £15k, it seems to be a standard benchmark for I know a couple of other people who's offspring have started at the same salary - its not a shabby salary for a 21 year old and its above NMW but the truth is that unless you want to finance yourself through the LPC stage to become a practicing solicitor (not too many firms pay for this these days as they realise that students or their parents will pay for it themselves), if you don't do this then you'll shuffle papers and stay at the equivalent of £15k for the rest of your life.

One of my offspring noticed this pretty quickly and moved out into estate agency - I'm convinced that now she prints money herself and a bloody good pat on the back for her for doing so.

They both done good :D

I like the idea that the next generation moves on from the last and as I didn't bother with professional qualifications apart from my 25 yard swimming certificate and a SQL Server 2005 Microsoft qualification that I cheated in the exam to get, then its good that they have moved it on again, at 22 years of age one of them is actually on the same basic salary as me :D

Having said all that there was nothing like the training that my dad gave me when I joined his business, the founding principal of which was that if the customer pays cash then that is no business of the exchequer...

I got a red badge for swimming a width of our council run outdoor swimmimg pool.
I cheated, shallow end, pretended to do doggy paddle but propelled myself with my hands along the bottom of the pool.
It's not all bad though, clambered over the wall with several young ladies when I was in my yoof.
Birds and bees and various other gymnastical affairs on the diving boards. :)
