Instead he goes to the trial, is found guilty again and then decides to leave Italy. He's guilty of being a complete div, but I don't think that proves they are guilty of the murder.

If he went anywhere in the EU a European Arrest Warrant would have been issued and he would have been lifted and returned to Italy.
Coming to think of it no first-world country would have let him in. Which means he would have had to go to South America, or somewhere in the Middle or far East.
There is a further appeal possible. If the verdict remains 'guilty' I wonder if the Italians will seek the extradition of Foxy Knoxy.
