OK, I admit that "talentless deadbeats" was a bit strong. Let's go with "of disappointingly low apparent talent despite input from respected artists who did well away from The Pogues".

Apart from that amazing, unique voice, Shane McGowan has written songs like Fairytale of New York, Sally Maclennane, If I Should Fall From Grace With God, and Dirty Old Town. To me this makes him an outstanding musical talent.

It's an odd one though as although it's Christmas related it only sneaked into the chart just before Christmas in 1983 and went on to reach number one in January 1984.
