But I would say that church bells have a historical context beyond religion and like I said, would you buy a house near Old Trafford then complain about the roads being blocked up every other week? Or is that sport getting a free pass?
a few hours every other week is not comparable to a constant onslaught of an unnecessary noise nuicance. The thinkg that clinched it was that they aren't even rung by people unless it's a wedding, its a computer programme with easily variable settings.

I don't have a problem with them chiming on the hour during the day/evening. The playing of a little tune every four hours is unnecessary at any time of day. I remember playing a gig at an outdoor party in the village a couple of summers ago, and I had to actually stop my set and sit there for a minute until it had finished.
I think the two are different.
For a start, unless you're around viewing a house in the area between 7 and 9 on a Thursday evening, you wouldn't necessarily get to know about the two hour bellathon. Likewise the late night/early morning chimes. Secondly, the playing of loud music is something that any member of the public or business can face legal action over if it occurs at inappropriate times or with inappropriate frequency. Yet church bells seem to somehow be exempt. I think it's also relevant that Man Utd don't usually schedule their fixtures for 0400.
If the bells have been chiming since long before you were born then you don't really have reason to complain, just don't live near them.
Anyway, what this has to do with changing the marriage laws is beyond me.

No thread drift.
Didn't you know a campanologist is another word for a homosexual?

Are you unable to read?
Christianity: because you're so awful you made God kill himself.

So if you move into an area, then find out that your neighbour plays loud music at 4 in the morning (and for 2 hours every Thursday night) you should just 'ship out'?

It's another example of where the treatment of an organisation by the state is uneven, we have equality laws that say you cannot discriminate, but a law is to be passed that facilitates just that, likewise RockGodX couldn't play his guitar at 3 am at a volume the whole village could hear, but the church can use an onslaught of horrific noise because "itmpleases the sky pixie", so an element of thread drift, but it exposes the double standard quite well.
