I've spent the last eight days, for 12 hours a day, sat in my local maternity ward with Mrs Scooter Nik. Of the staff there, I'd say that a good 80% were of white, British origin. The odd thing though was, that of the 20% that weren't, the vast majority where in the more highly qualified posts.
This is to say that the midwives, nurses, cleaning and ancillery staff, Sister were all English, but all the specialist staff bar the anesthatist were from abroad. I've no idea what that tells us, but it must say something.
I'd also like to say that the Scunthorpe General Hospital's Maternity Unit staff were incredibly helpful, knowlegeable, efficient and informative from the midwife assistants at the coal face to the consultant we saw on a regular enough basis. Their effiency was in no way affected by their ethnicity or nationality.
God is nothing more than an imaginary friend for grown ups.

1. When I used to go years ago you could see why people were there - broken limbs, blood eveywhere, etc. Nowadays, they are jam packed but not with that sort of case. 2. Mrs Dally thinks it's because doctors no longer do out of hours work and so people with minor ailments go to A&E. 3. White, middle class British types are under-represented - presumably because they are risk-averse, play by the rules, etc. 4. On Saturday evening the place we were at was rammed and Mrs D counted only 8 white people, 5 of whom were Polish. None of the staff were white and English. The one white nurse was Irish, all other nurses / doctors were from ethnic "minorities" (sic). 5. Many self-inflicted case - men dangerously drunk at 2.00pm, and vomitting, for example.
I know what you mean, recently my wife suffered chest pains and we called the out of hours number at our surgery, the doctor rang an ambulance and sent her direct to A&E where she was promptly seen by the staff (bloody darkies as well), put on a heart monitor and checked overnight, a consultant (another bloody darky ) came to see her within an hour and returned a few times to check on her as well as regular visits from other medically trained 'darkies'. We were partly relieved at about 6 am when a nice 'white' face approached, only to discover she was from Poland or 'somewhere' like that (well they all sound the same don't they). We were greatly relieved when she was given the all clear by the consultant and allowed to go home without him getting a set of bones out, throwing them on the floor and doing a dance just to make 100% sure she was ok.

Talking of the NHS, the Minister for Murdoch now plans to sell of lashings more of our health service so that his mates can stick their noses even further into the trough.

It wouldn't be top of my list if my heart was packing in, I just need them to know what they are doing.
