In more news, Osborne expresses shock that lots of very wealthy people aren't paying much tax at all.

Now, is he naive – or does he really think he can con us?

If he really is shocked at the report that he asked for from HMRC that some of the country's highest earners often pay only around 10% in taxes on their income then his shock should be directed at HMRC who are well aware of the legal loopholes and seemingly fail to inform MPs, Ministers and the Chancellor that all of this is happening.

Personally I would just about be willing to accept his excuse of a combination of naivety and a not fit for purpose Revenue, having had to deal directly with them in the past.

Touch wood, I've not personally had any problems with them. Mind, last time I spoke to them, in the autumn, the person dealing with the issue said that he wished everyone was as easy to deal with as me.*

Erm, is this the Osbourne that used to be chancellor? He was responsible for a few of the bloody loopholes being there in the first place.

I wonder if he'lll start with his Dad?

What's the point of announcing this bollox, when all the super-rich will do is dump their wages into their own company?

Is that because:

1. You overpay them; and
2. Are unduly polite to them as, being public sector workers, they couldn't possibly make a mistake?

More likely
3. Minty isn't you, with your "screw you" attitude to public service workers; and
4. She accepts that they are human. may make mistakes and can live with it without blowing a gasket and tarring them all with the same brush.

Thank you Chris: beautifully put.

Only needs to add that I can make mistakes too (not often, obviously  ) and if they don't lose their rag me me on such occasions it all helps too.

sanjunien wrote:that certainly was the case - there has to be give and take something past union Sec Gens refused to respect thus losing the sympathy of the majority

unions in general had more punch in the 70s but the over reaction by many union leaders did a lot to damage the union power and reduce the union mandate - Maggie saw to that and it seems to have gone downhill ever since....

They lost the sympathy of the public because the public was continually bombarded and a good majority brainwashed, by the media with negative stories, most of which were lies and deceit. The only mass readership newspaper that gave a sort of token support to them was the Daily Mirror. Murdoch bought the Herald, another token supporter and turned it into the Sun, which basically got Thatcher elected.

There's no doubt there was a lot in British industry that was wrong, such as restrictive practises but now we have no industry, just a huge corrupt financial services sector that has the biggest restrictive practices in history, apart from the royal family that is.

And as if by magic, here's a commentary showing yet more of just those sort of lies, right today.
