I think that's largely because there seem to be more emphasis (in the media, certainly) on a certain 'celebrity' body type, that is both very thin and, therefore, with augmented boobs, complimented by a particularly artificial sort of make up.

Some Like It Hot remains an absolute gem. Although
The Misfits gave her the chance to show more dramatic depth.
