Why shouldn't she be able to ask an actual lawyer, and why shouldn't that lawyer be able to claim the reasonable cost of telling her? Or, (radical, I know) actually helping her?

becuase only 1 hour of free legal aid is available probably.

Just making the point that if there is not a change in the rules or a nice pro bono lawyer that No-ONE should be afraid of going to court themselves as their are lots of ways of getting free legal advice and doing it yourself.

The legal profession makes a lot of the law look and sound more complicated than it is

Despite that i do actually agree with your post

Surely that doesn't prevent us from bidding for more services though. It works for Serco and A4e

The older I get, the better I was

Ferocious Aardvark wrote:The government is hell-bent on destroying legal aid, and indeed destroying access to justice for anyone except Russain oligarchs. You are all letting it happen, so they know they will get away with it, as an utterly apathetic public couldn't give a sh?t. Until they need access to justice, of course.

The Tories have just passed yet more swingeing cuts in access to justice, cunningly disguised in the NHS legislation, there was a rearguard action by lawyers and some peers with a conscience, but always doomed to failure with no public support.

Various governments have had it in for legal aid for many decades but if you spoke to anyone about it, it was always, "Rubbish, the lawyers are just bleating". Well, the chickens are already roosting in their thousands and it will get much worse, as Ken asshole Clarke is now on the home run with a wet sail.

I agree with the first paragraph.

I am curious as to the second, please could you elaborate?

As to the third, I partially agree, but it is not as if the Bar Council or Law Society are actively making much noise about the present situation. You would think said organisations would be campaigning in the mainstream media, but nothing seems to be being said or done.
