Give 'em the chance and use the signal clause. If they won't agree to cancel the contract simply return everything and cancel the direct debit, that way they can't take any payments. Also put it in writing. They'll probably call and send you a few letters but will give up after a while.

Do it all as soon as possible and don't take no for an answer.

I've got a contract that costs about a fiver a month and can be used outside the UK, get free handsets, etc The reason it's so cheap is I've had it 15+ years.

I count myself lucky that I'm on a £15 a month contract that I signed up to in 2005 and is just rolling on, I rarely go over that. Every time I get one of those phone calls trying to sell me a new contract I tell them that I am not interested in paying more than £15 a month, as I don't use the phone enough to justify it. They never listen, they just start telling me all the great minutes and texts I'll have on a £35 a month contract if I decide by the end of the day.

I am sure I should be erased from the thread. Good god, how bad is this this thread now?

I've recently been using giffgaff and can't fault it. £10 a month for 250 mins, unlimited web and unlimited texts and no minimum term is fantastic compared to what I was paying with O2. I'll save around £300 a year using giffgaff compared to 02.

All told, mobile contracts are nothing more than bloody expensive rent-to-buy deals. If the likes of Brighthouse offered to sell you a £500 product and charge you close to £900 over 24 months, you'd tell them where to shove it, yet mobile phone companies do the very same to millions with the iPhone.

£180 of credit a month (for calls and texts) and unlimited (that's actually unlimited too, as my contract is pre-new limits) - HTC Desire (top of the range last time I renewed; cost nothing up front) - £17/month.
