Well El B has his return to morality via Christianity card. Just maybe he's struck lucky:

http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... rnors.html

Allied to that, the new Archbishop is poistiong the CoE to 'destroy' pay day lending companies over the next few years by he CoE promoting credit unions, etc in order to take the evil money lenders market away.

Has the CoE finally got a leader that can make aqnd this country great again? I certainly hope so. We are crying out for a major religious revival to crush the immoral, hedonism of New Labour's years.

Translation: As more and more people discover that the Church of England (and religion in general) is a total irrelevance, I'm frantically searching for ever more underhanded ways of trying to ensure that the whole thing doesn't fold completely.

The CoE has as much relevance as it has power.

The idea it can "take on the payday lenders", big businesses with politicians safely in their pockets thanks to donations, is comical verging on delusional.

I appreciate part of the job of being Archbish is to bang the drum for your team, but nobody seems to be listening.

Just checked ... it was invalidated when I said that god doesn't exist.

Dally wrote:..We are crying out for a major religious revival ...

Those who want religion already have it, so who is this "we"?

Dally wrote:...to crush the immoral, hedonism of New Labour's years.

I have been a devout hedonist since long before 1997.
Nowt immoral about a bit of pleasure now and then.

But seriously folks ...
Quelle surprise that Govey is minded to hand over young suggestible minds to the purveyors of superstition and deism ... everyone has to fit the same mould from which he was cast.

Regarding Welby's CoE onslaught against payday lenders ... a nice gesture and I wish him all the best with it.
It's a bit like seeing a dog walking on its hind legs, we shouldn't scoff at how badly it does it but gaze in wonder that it does it at all.

I think they will succeed in this. It is a brilliant idea that helps people in need and makes the Church relevant again.

(If one wanted to take Gove's line further one can envisage that he imay be hoping to getback to a position where the deserving poor have to apply to the local parish for alms. In other words privatise the welfare system without the need to pay billions to scabby private contractors).

I'd just like to point out that my Hedonism started in 1982 and peaked in about 1998.

If the CoE are allowed then do will be the Catholics, Muslims and any one else wanting a quick buck!

Be careful what you wish for.

Gove wants to turn the clock back. Why would non-state churches be allowed any influence?

If this gets the go ahead in a few years ill await your thread demanding that Islam and Catholic schools are shut, creationism and some bloke on a winged horse and his pet rock are not taught on par with science.

It would be funny if it wasn't so tragic.
